The concept of time is interesting, because I can't understand how it feels like I have just arrived and have also been here forever. I will credit this to two things-- the people who skip past the idea of acquaintances, offering uninhibited love; and yet the freshness of the days where there is always new discoveries. An example of this is seeing what my host dad, Javier, will put on champurradas next. (Champurradas being a type of cookie, that he puts frijoles or other things on, and its usually not bad!)
This week I had the chance to spend time with the other students at the school; to meet my teacher Albertina, who is so much fun to spend time with; to go shopping at "China Depot" which has everything imaginable in it; and to have a surprise "Bienvenida" party from my host family! I have felt the blessings and goodness of God this week, because in the midst of this adjustment and a bit of an exhausted mind, I find many moments of joy to reflect on.
Highlights!!!
- Finding out I'm not crazy for putting salt on my watermelon--they do it here all the time with different fruits
-Mistakenly saying "mierda" instead of "mentira" in Spanish class and my teacher finding it absolutely hilarious. (Mentira means "lie" in English. Mierda on the other hand, is another word for poop, so it was a pretty bad but funny mistake).
-Learning to go from drinking one or two cups of coffee a week to one or two cups a day. (I have never drunk black coffee until now)
Prayer Requests:
Blessings for my host family that has given me so much already.
To continue seeing the joys in the midst of difficult adjustment.
For a focused mind and heart in what God has called me here for.
Thank you to everyone for the love I have felt.
